This week, I have the chance to watch Million Dollar Baby. There seems to be many sayings.

The movie starts with a boxing campaign. Eddie "Scrap Iron" Dupris (by Morgan Freeman) is fighting and bleeding on the face. He then retires with one eye blind and works for Frankie Dunn (by Clint Eastwood), a boxing trainer. Maggie Fitzgerald (by Hilary Swank)

When Maggie was practicing by herself on her 32nd birthday, Frankie had a talk with her. When Frankie said he would give her advice on practicing, Maggie rejected saying that she did not need mercy from others, what she needed was a trainer. It is the basic line and it put both of them to the right position. Frankie would take himself as her trainer and would not have excuse. Maggie with father dead, and Frankie with no contact with his daughter cooperated quite well. Frankie read Gaelic books in spare time, and gave Maggie a name Mo Cuishle when she started the match in Europe. This name become popular when Maggie won lots of matches.

It is a pity that Maggie did not get the meaning of Mo Cuishle by winning the match against the WBA women welterweight champion, Billie the Blue Bear. Billie is famous for foul attacks. After some foul attacks, Frankie told Maggie the way to fight against Billie. When Maggie succeeded in giving Billie double hit, Maggie relaxed and turned around to the audience. Billie illegally committed heavy attack to Maggie's head. Maggie lost balance and fell down with head and neck on the corner stool.

The principle of boxing is to protect yourself. Frankie told Maggie the meaning of Mo Cuishle before Maggie died. It is "My darling, my blood" in Irish Gaelic. "My darling, my blood" is touching…

I get to know that this movie won a lot of awards from Wikipedia, such as for 2004 Academy Awards (Oscars), just to name a few.

The Nikola Tesla Reminder - Google Search Image

I usually use google toolbar to search content that would be useful for me. On July 10, 2009, I notice that there was a special pattern on google search of my colleague's computer. Thus, I go to save the image on my computer with the file name started with tesla. However, I am not sure what the date is for yet.

Just google and get to know it is the birthday of Nikola Tesla (July 10, 1856 – January 7, 1943). I remembered watching a TV show about Nikola Tesla. When talking about electricity, most of us would recall Edison. Only a few common people seem to know another great inventor, Nikola Tesla for alternating current. The alternating current developed by Tesla is different from the direct current by Thomas Edison.

The alternating current power system is the fundamental system for our daily life now. The TV show presents the dispute about the experiment of Directed-energy weapon, which was based on a narrow stream of atomic clusters of liquid mercury or tungsten accelerated via high voltage. It was introduced that his experiment in 1893 for World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago made the night as bright as the day.

Face the Fact with Michael Jackson's Death

In the morning of June 26, 2009, I got the news from radio saying that Michael Jackson died. I couldn’t believe what I hear, because I know that he was planning his concert in the near July. My first thought is that it could be the rumor before his concert. Sorry about my first thought. I know that it is unrespectable to the death, but I am not afraid to be honest.

With the confirmation with LA coroner about Michael Jackson’s autopsy, I finally believe it as the truth that the King of Pop died at 50. I am not a super fan of Michael Jackson, but I remembered my roommate in colleague played his song for body moving, or say keeping fit. The song we often heard is Beat It. We are not practicing the moon walk, but just to move our bodies with the songs.

My friend sent me the message about Michael Jackson’s fan, who had not listened to Michael Jackson’s songs in several years. But she suddenly recalled Michael Jackson’s song and then watched the movie on computer. She was touched and back to sleep with her husband waiting for her. The next day, she heard about the death of Michael Jackson. It seems psychic and I was touched.

Although I am not a super fan, his songs bring emery and keep excited. It is what we need when we are down. In memory of Michael Jackson, I will try to get a DVD of his best album and back it up on computer, so that the original one will not be scraped by accident when in use.

Vertical Limit - A Movie about Father

The film "Vertical Limit" started with a family of three, the Garrett family climbing. However, accident came without any sign. The father, who was near the top of the cliff, was dragged by the other travelers to a lower altitude than his son, Pete, and daughter, Annie. The two who caused the accident fell down and died. The conflict came as it was too heavy to have three lifting by one rock cleat on a rope. The rock cleat seems to be loosing with the weight. The father asked Peter, who was in the middle, to cut the rope. Peter did it with struggle, but the young saved lives with father's death.

I remembered that I did not watch the whole movie when I first have a look at it. However, I was touched by the end of the movie. Wick looked at Peter, and Peter seems to know what Wick would do. Wick took out a knife to cut the rope, Peter said no, but it was in vain, as Wick had decided. When they started the rescue, climbing, Wick told Peter that what Peter had done was right. If he were his father, he would also cut off the rope by himself if he had a knife.

It is what a father would do. It is what a professional with the heart to consider others would do.

Father is the keyword throughout the movie. Peter's father died in the beginning. Peter didn't climb since his father's death. Annie participated in competition and won award for women climbing. Annie's aim to climb K2 in Pakistan, the world's second highest peak, is to go near to her father. When Annie was trapped in a cavern after the snow storm, Annie said they should not have buried father in ground, but to bring the bone ash to K2.

On the Father's Day, I chatted with my father online and sent blessing messages to my uncles.

Shortcut to speed up your computer

Here I would like to share with you the shortcuts I often use. It is to reduce the use of mouse and save time with the quick use of keyboard. You may find it somewhat difficult to follow the shortcuts. However, you will find it useful after a few minutes.

I often need to open a folder, and I save it to my favorite by the following steps.
When you face the folder you shall often look into, use Alt + A – A, i.e. to press the keyboard Alt + A at the same time, and then press A (for adding to favorite). You will then face the Add to Favorite dialog box. Click OK to save your favorite folder. The initial character of the folder name will be the related shortcut for you. If the initial word of the folder is not in English, you can add a character that is defined by you for the folder. Since then, you can use Alt + A – P (if you set it as P) when you face the explorer. If you have not opened an explorer yet, here is the short cut for you to open the resource manager. Press Windows + E at the same time. The Windows key is usually beside the Space key. Then use Alt + A – P to open my favorite folder.
Windows + R is to open the Run dialog box. It is the substitute of clicking Start -> Run with the mouse.
Ctrl + N is to open a new file. It is useful on many programs, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, IE 6, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop. When you face the above programs, just press Ctrl and N at the same time, you will face a blank file. However it is to open a new window with the same URL on IE 6. It is the substitute of clicking File -> New with mouse.
Ctrl + S is to save file. Remember to save the changes while you are editing. It will save you a lot of time and prevent misoperation.
Ctrl + C is to copy the selected content.
Ctrl + V is to paste the copied content just now. This method will include original format.
Alt + E + S + ↑/↓ is to selective pasting. Generally, I will use ↑/↓ to choose Text or Unformatted Text. When copying table to excel, if there is image on the table which you do not want to get, you can click on the menu Edit ->Selective Paste -> Text (Unformatted Tex) or use the shortcut I mention. It will save time if you are copying from web. You will find the content on different unit as you see from the source. This shortcut is also applicable on Word.
Generally speaking, you can use Ctrl + T to open a new Tab on IE 7, FireFox, Safari and enter different URL. However it is different on Maxthon, as it is Ctrl + N.
Alt + Tab(The key beside Q) is to shift among the open windows. When the window is not the one when you press Alt + Tab, you can press Tab again and again to find the right window if you have not released the Alt key yet. If you have already released the Alt key, you can try again using Alt + Tab – Tab if it is on the 3rd rank. It is better for the shift between two windows or among 3 windows.
Ctrl + Tab is to shift among the similar windows or tabs. If the current window is Excel worksheet, it means to shift to another opening Excel window. If you use it on FireFox or Dreamweaver, it will bring you to the next tab. Microsoft Word does not support this shortcut.
Ctrl + I is to make the text italic. Just select the content you want to show italic and use this shortcut.
Ctrl + B is to make the text bold.
Ctrl + F is to find the needed text.
Ctrl + H is the shortcut to replace text.

Sports - Yoga

After a lazy winter, I feel that I am fatter than ever. The life buoy on the waist is coming into effect. I remember exercising Yoga with my roommates in colleague. Even though we now live in different cities, one of my roommates seems to keep exercising.

To get a better feeling about myself and to release myself from the heavy work, I went to buy a Yoga DVD from a supermarket. Some movements are different for me, but it will be better if I keep practices. One movement is like riding a bike. I don’t think it was difficult to me. But I feel the tension of my legs after a while.

Keep exercise, keep health.

Read a Whole Book

When is your last time to read a whole book? This is the question I got from the radio.

I don't quite remember the exact time I read one book. Actually, you don't have to read a whole book to get the information you want. It saves time by picking chapters, but you may also miss some points. The last whole book I read is about the psychology of people with cancer. However, it is a story book from a psychologist to fight against the shadow after the receiving hospital treatment.

I am reading The Little Red Book of Selling by Jeffrey Gitomer. It takes some time, but the reading of the book is not as important as the action.

What do you do on the Sunday, Apr. 12, 2009? For Christians, they will go to Church and celebrate the re-life of Jesus Christ. I remembered visiting to the Church in China, and each Christians was distributed with a small cup of red wine (it looks like the red wine) and a piece of biscuit or something like that. The preach asked them to stand up and introduced the red wine as the blood of Jesus Christ, the biscuit as the body. By drinking the wine and eating the biscuit, their sin are forgiven by the Lord. I remember that I was once given a colorful Easter egg. It's a pity that I don't have a photo of it. Here I made one myself.

What do you think that make you have the thoughts of getting an iPhone? How would you persuade yourself for buying it? A gift, a substitute to the old phone, or like what a father thought of a tech toy to do homework?

Just read an interesting article on nytimes.com, "Dad, I need an iPhone to do my homework". The father indicated that his 4th grade daughter claimed that she wanted an iPhone as almost one third of the students in the same grade have iPhone. Even though the little girl on 4th grade does not really require an iPhone with the homework as the reason, the author mentioned about the new application named "Blackboard" developed on iPhone for school and colleague.

Being a smartphone with touchscreen and Apple brand, iPhone attracts the eyeball of many Mac users. Imagine the future digital world and how quickly the related applications are developed for the latest popular devices. There will be more and more reasons for getting them on hand.

Earth Hour 60 – pay attention to world climate

Yesterday, March 29, 2009, with the advocacy of World Wide Fund for Nature, many cities in the world participate to turn off light in 60 minutes. However, the world is not dark. Some use candles instead of light. It was the way before power was discovered. The earth hour 60 was first promoted in Sydney, Australia on March 31, 2007. It was also hosted globally on March 29, 2008.
I missed the exact time, starting from 8:30. But I did not turn on the lights, as I was away from home. The spirit of the activity is to remind us about our impact of the world climate. We can reduce energy consumption and clean the earth every day from our life.

3. Mark down the software developer site if possible.

Check the affiliate platform on software developer's site :
1. Visit the software developer's site and find the page about affiliate program introduction (regnow, eSellerate, shareit, element5, avantage, plimus, cj.com, et.c). Generally, the affiliate page is available on the top navigation or the bottom navigation. Some may be included in Company column or Partner column.
2. If you could not find the affiliate page on software developer's site, you may google with the site dowmain, e.g. " affiliate site:blogspot.com" to find the related page. You can also get to the affiliate sites like softpedia.com, brothersoft.com to see the payment platform on the buy now button. If it is RegNow, you can mark down the product ID. Every product on regnow includes its ID, it is available on the purchase link after the string "item=". The general format for a product is xxxxx-x. The former xxxxx is the software developer account ID.
Note: shareit and element5 use the same database as a whole platform.

Test the trial version with the trial download link:
1. If the affiliate platform is RegNow, and the software developer offer free trial on regnow.com, you will get the link with your affiliate ID. Your affiliate ID shall be the 5 or 6 digits after the string "affiliate="
Use the regnow trial download link and then try to click the purchase link on software UI to see if it works as one of the following situation:

There is no direct download link for these platforms. However, you can choose the link for product page, which will includes the download button and buy now button. Open the product page link you generate on the platform and the affiliate ID will be stored in browser cookies. You will get commission, when customers purchase the product via shareit or element5. So what you need to do is download the trial version and check if the purchase link on software UI is shareit or element5.

3. If the affiliate platform is plimus:
1) After clicking the download link, it will offer direct download via browser, and the affiliate ID will be tracked on related browser cookies. You can earn commission when your visitor places an order for the product via plimus.
2) The download link will direct visitors to the software developer's site. If payment platform on the software developer's site is plimus, it will track your affiliate ID then. It is somewhat like the direct download. However, visitors shall click to download again on software developer's site. It may not be a good choice for user experience.

In terms of software developers that only offer cj.com as affiliate platform, there are tracking code, which could not be deleted. e.g.

Today, I will talk about the registration and some other information about affiliate programs.

RegNow
Register as an affiliate in RegNow:
1. Open the page for sign-up: http://www.regnow.com/signup/affiliate.

2. Fill in the blanks. If your site is not accessible yet, you may leave it as blank. The email address will receive the email with regnow affiliate ID and password. Choose the country you live in.
3. After clicking the Sign Up button, you will receive and email from regnow.com. Open the link https://www.regnow.com/affiliatepriv and log in with the ID and password. You can then change the password with you preferences.

Search products via RegNow affiliate control panel:
1. As soon as you log in, you will find a search box on the right of the control panel. Enter the software name or the software product ID. Alternatively, you can click "Product Finder" on the left of control panel, click Name Search and enter software name or product ID, or browser according to the Categories.
2. Choose the products according to the theme of your site, or the visitors' interest on your site.
3. Check the commission rate, product ID, and other information, see if there is trial version for the product.
4. Click "Sales Links" tab to get the buy now link of the product and trial download if the vendor provides trial version on regnow. Add string "&ss_short_order=true" to the buy now link, and the visitors will be directed to the order form to enter information while clicking to purchase.
5. On the bottom of the Sales Links page, you may find the link to the vendor's website. Copy the link and open with your IE, FireFox or Safari to check if the vendor offers regnow as payment method on the site.

3. By default, the checkbox for "I have read and accepted the Commission Junction Access Service Agreement." is gray out. You need to click the Accept button on the end statement of the Service Agreement.
4. Enter the email address, while will be the user name for your login. You will get the password from the email address. Check the required options and enter related information.
5. You will soon get the password, but there is no access to change password so far I know.
Search products on cj.com:
1. Log in and click "Get Links" tab. You can search according to product name, advertiser name, or link.
2. When you decide the product, find the "Advertiser" column and click for the product you choose. Click "Join Program" in the pop-up window.
3. For the "Sale", "Lead" and "Click" columns, you can find the commission rate. For the "Status" column, you can see if you are approved to promote the product.
4. Generally speaking, you shall wait until the advertisers' approval before getting links to promote their products.
5. When an advertiser approves your application, you can find the advertiser name on the bottom of the page after you log in, or after you click the "Home" tab. Select the advertiser and click "Go", there will be description about the affiliate program. Choose Text Links in the pop-up window and search for the product. You may also click "Get Links" after login and search again to get HTML code after clicking "Get HTML".

Register as an affiliate on esellersate:
1. Open https://affiliates.esellerate.net/Affiliates/SignUp.aspx and click "continue".

2. Enter the related information, and you can set the login name with password.

Register as an affiliate on onenetworkdirect.com:
1. Open the link https://aff.onenetworkdirect.com/affiliate_signup.html.

2. Wait for the email address activation. Prepare a short description about your site.

Shareit

2. The registration on shareit requires approval, and the website you enter shall be accessible before you apply for the account. You may have to wait for the approval of the vendor to promote his product before getting the buy url.

CJ affiliate program:
A platform with many kinds of stuff. Software providers (described as advertiser on cj.com) like Adobe, Roxio, Nero and Cyberlink use this platform. There are different types of items, books, hardware, jewelry, shoes, rentals, accessories, etc. The affiliate is described as publisher on cj.com.

oneNetworkDirect affiliate program:
The control panel is somewhat like CJ, offering the impression statistics. However, it is owned by Digital River. It offers software and digital products.

shareit affiliate program:
A platform for software. Element5 and shareit use the same platform, which means if you register on shareit, you do not need to register on element 5 then.
Plimus affiliate program:
A platform for software and digital products. The control panel is easy for checking sales. If there is an order, you will find the record once you log in.

Review on Blackberry Slavery

Currently Nokia dominates the smartphone market share, Research in Motion (RIM, the developer of BlackBerry) run after it, and Apple get the 3 position. Even though Nokia enjoys the large market share, but the sales in 2008 is not positive enough, while RIM, HTC and Samsung grows up in the market. The most obvious improvement counts to Apple.

A new product will be increase sales while the market recognizes your brand. Apple did not publish new product in the 4th quarter in 2008 and the sales is a little bit lower than that in the 3rd quarter. RIM with two new BlackBerry in the 4th quarter and Samsung with the new touchscreen Omnia have a better sales in the 4th quarter.

RIM recently announced that a new online application store, as a counterpart to Apple’s, will be released within a month. Apple iTunes Store enjoy great sales with its users. For RIM, the new store will bring further sales too.

Knowledge about smartphone operating system
Symbian was once owned by Erisson, Panasonic, Siemens and Nokia. After the acquisition of Symbian, Nokia is the final official owner. RIM develops its own operating system for BlackBerry. There are other operating systems like Microsoft Windows Mobile, Apple Mac OS, etc.
